Last weekend we had the opportunity to spend a weekend camping at a game reserve with good friends.
This was my children's first experience with camping, and they thought it was great fun!
We went on game drives each day, and saw an amazing variety of different animals.
I also have friends visiting from Canada, and they were able to come along as well.
This was their first time experiencing all these wild African animals.
We nearly had Denis running for his life with a close up view of some giant elephants - lol :)

This is a Springbok - South Africa's National Animal
These little animals are truly amazing!
They are extremely fast and can reach speeds of 100 km/h
(62 mph).
They only stand about 70 to 90 cm (28 to 35 in) high.
Springbok males weigh
between 32 and 48 kg (71 and 110 lb) and the females between 25 and 35
kg (55 and 77 lb).

We were lucky enough to see a number of Rhinos. Sadly they are being poached in such huge numbers, that you are no longer guaranteed to see them :(
By Saterday evening, the one animal we had not yet seen was an Elephant
Just as we were getting ready to drive out, who decided to visit, but this friendly giant.
Musa was thrilled! He'd been asking to see elephants for two days by this point.
Musa - "Mom, where are the elephants?"
Me - "They're playing hide and seek!"
Musa - "Oh, like in Barney?!"
LOL
This is the sunset we caught as we raced out of the park after watching the elephants.

Sunday morning we came across this giant grand-daddy ellie.
His trunk was so big he carried it draped over a tusk!
Then he decided to "chase" a car down the road - glad we weren't in that car!
It looked like a child's toy, next to this ellie.
His ears were so ginormous that they flopped back, and the kids couldn't stop commenting on the fact that he didn't have a tail.
So many amazing, and wondrous animals.
